Summary

In this breathless third installment to Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling Red Queen series, allegiances are tested on every side. And when the Lightning Girl's spark is gone, who will light the way for the rebellion? Mare Barrow is a prisoner, powerless without her lightning, tormented by her lethal mistakes. She lives at the mercy of a boy she once loved, a boy made of lies and betrayal. Now a king, Maven Calore continues weaving his dead mother's web in an attempt to maintain control over his country—and his prisoner. As Mare bears the weight of Silent Stone in the palace, her once-ragtag band of newbloods and Reds continue organizing, training, and expanding. They prepare for war, no longer able to linger in the shadows. And Cal, the exiled prince with his own claim on Mare's heart, will stop at nothing to bring her back. When blood turns on blood, and ability on ability, there may be no one left to put out the fire—leaving Norta as Mare knows it to burn all the way down.

Discussion

- I was a bit disappointed with this book so I gave it a 3 coffee mug rating. That being said I still enjoyed it.

- To my surprise I'd have to say Evangeline was my favorite character in this book. I loved her story so much! It was awesome to see that she consists of more emotional layers than what I'd thought. I hope that she is able to find it in herself to like the Red's that would make me love her that much more!

- Volo Samos was my least favorite character. I hate the fact that he's forcing Evangeline to marry for his own personal gain.

- I loved the scene when Farley has her baby! It was definitely emotional to see a piece of Shade left behind!

- My least favorite part was the ending for sure! Oh my gosh! What the HELL Cal!!!! He picked the silvers over Mare when he said he would choose her!

- Most memorable quote:

"To stand in front of a person who is your whole world and be told you are not enough. You are not the choice. You are a shadow to the person who is your sun."

- I'd like to add that I would love to see if they can find an ardent whisper! Maybe that will be the key to fixing the mess Maven's mother left in his brain! Because I'm still team Maven and always will be!!!

Final thoughts

- I did like this book but it did fall short for me therefore leaving me disappointed. I would say that if you really feel like reading it then go for it maybe you will LOVE it!? If not that is OK there are other books out there to be read and enjoyed as well!
